Need to Know

When you are considering providers, the following are some important questions to ask, and our answers.

What is the timeline for scheduling an intake and initial evaluation?

Our Answer: You and/or your child will have an intake and initial evaluation scheduled within 24 hours and the actual intake and initial evaluation will occur within 48-72 hours.

What is the timeline for receiving feedback from the initial intake and evaluation?

Our Answer: You will receive feedback immediately following the intake and initial evaluation and if you schedule a follow up appointment, a plan will be established with you on goals and objectives for the clinical work.

What is the process for scheduling an initial consolation?

Our Answer: Initial phone and face-to-face consultations are at no cost to you. We believe that you have the right to expert consultation at no cost.

What are your testing procedures and how do you evaluate the need for testing?

Our Answer: Testing is only done as needed and each evaluation is unique in that it is tailored to the needs of the person.

What is the process for receiving testing feedback?

Our Answer: You will receive feedback at a clinical review session, in which you will receive copies of the report, and have your questions answered.

Who administers the testing?

Our Answer: Testing is only conducted by psychologists licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. No technicians are used.

Will other providers be involved in my care?

Our Answer: With your consent to communicate to others, we will coordinate communication with important providers.

What kinds of testing do you offer?

Our Answer: We have a full range of testing services and specialize in testing that is conducted for legal matters, for addictions, for emotional and social intelligence.

Is your office a family friendly place?

Our Answer: We have a beautiful office in a residential setting that offers opportunities for interaction with the outdoors. Our office suite is situated in a beautiful neighborhood with parks, forests, and grassy lawns that make for an inviting atmosphere, especially for children.

What is the caseload of your clinicians?

Our Answer: Dr. Kothari is dedicated to the most personalized level of services in which you and your unique situation are the absolute priority. All caseloads are balanced by the need to be available to you.

Who treats my child in the psychotherapy?

Our Answer:  Whereas many clinics offer low rate services in which supervised trainees conduct psychotherapy, Dr. Kothari is a licensed psychologist who has many years of training and who conducts all work himself.

Does your staff have therapists with academic appointments?

Our Answer: Dr. Kothari holds two university teaching appointments, one in a program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Kothari is in a unique position to be training the next generation of psychologists, while conducting research on therapy models and methods in order to ensure the highest quality of services.

Are therapists available after hours?

Our Answer: Dr. Kothari is often available after office hours to personally speak with you, especially in a crisis. Dr. Kothari has relationships with various hospitals so that if there is an emergency admits to a hospital, Dr. Kothari can be notified and be made available to staff and to you.

What is the role of medication in treatment?

Our Answer: Medication has an important role to play for some clients and it is important to have discussions about such options especially when working with children. Dr. Kothari has trusted relationship with a number of psychiatrists who know him personally and we will work together to ensure that your treatment is appropriately coordinated. If medication is part of your treatment, Dr. Kothari will work to communicate clearly and effectively with that physician.
